简单点说，Firefox的主密码功能，可以算作是Firefox隐私系统的又一层安全屏障。因此，即使Firefox使用明文保存用户账号和密码等私人信息，只要设置了主密码，用户就不必担心自己的信息泄露或被窃取——通过主密码设置保护，我只在Firefox浏览器中见到过。不过这种做法也不是完美无缺——有朋友就因为个人疏忽而忘记了主密码——这样一来，当用户再登陆某网站时，就会因为必须输入主密码而无法正常登陆。这时，办法只有一个，那就是重置Firefox的主密码。本文提供两种重置主密码的方法。
1. 在Firefox中重置主密码
解铃还须系铃人。Firefox自己的主密码功能，自然会有解决的办法。当用户忘记主密码时，如果想对它进行重置恢复，可以打开Firefox浏览器，在地址栏中输入chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul，点击“重置”即可。不过这样做的后果也相当严重：用户存储的所有的Web和E-mail密码、表单数据、个人证书和私钥等都将被一并清除。
2. 使用FireMaster重置Firefox主密码
FireMaster号称是第一款拥有重置Firefox主密码功能的软件。事实上，FireMaster使用的是暴力破解方法，用户在使用FireMaster时实际上就是自己充当了Hacker的角色（^_^除非非常时刻，建议不要使用）。不过相较第一种方法，通过FireMaster破解，至少不用丢失用户账号、密码等信息。
如果你之前没听说过Firefox的主密码，建议立即设置以保存那些极易暴漏的明文密码——亡羊补牢还不算晚；虽然忘记了主密码的确是一件麻烦事，但将自己的隐私信息暴漏在危险之中，则是一种更不明智的做法。
